Vegan onion rings

Some simple suggestions for cooking onion rings. They explain various options for vegan batter.

Ingredients

• Onion
• Olive oil
• Tempura flour (other options in the recipe)
• Breadcrumbs (optional)
• Salt

Preparation

Simply cut the onions into rings, ensuring that they are quite wide, so they will stay crispy outside and soft inside.

To make the batter vegan you have many options

• Special flour, batter or cooking without eggs.
• A mixture of fizzy drink (beer, soda or sparkling water) and wheat flour. You have to leave a little thicker than the beaten egg mixture.
• Tempura flour.
• Soy flour diluted in water (4 tablespoons of water for every 2 flour per egg).

Prepare the batter according to the option you choose. The easiest to use are commercial options for cooking without eggs or tempura flour.

After batter and before frying, you can spend hoops breadcrumbs, to give a crunchy texture.

Fry in hot oil rings, preventing clumping together, as they will remain stuck. Ideally, the oil covers the rings completely, to be made on both sides evenly. When they browned allowed to stand on a plate with paper towels to absorb excess oil. Then add a little salt.

Serve with a sauce of tomato dipping into it.
