A personal choice or a principle of justice

Everyone does what he wants ... or maybe not
Vegetarianism Justice

Often it comes to vegetarianism as a personal choice that we choose or not. Is it fair this review, let’s see.

In principle, within the variety of foods out there, everyone can eat whatever he wants. And in general, you can do whatever you want. But this freedom has, for all the people responsible for their actions, a limit.

That limit is the dignity of others. I can act as I always pleases not cause any unfair damage. I can throw all the stones to the air anytime and anywhere, if I find that funny. But if I purposely threw a stone at his head, I'm already acting outside the limits set by the respect you deserve.

Similarly, you can eat the foods you want, provided that that choice is not the cause of suffering and systematic death of others. Buy products do not cause these evil vegetarian animals, therefore vegetarian is our obligation, not just a personal choice. This is because our freedom is limited by the respect they deserve the lives of other animals.

Moral discrimination for belonging to a species

I think we can agree that our freedom is limited by the evil that can cause to others. But the problem starts when it is said that in those others who respect are also cows, pigs, chicken, tuna, etc. It really does not seem important to lose their life and liberty. They're just animals, why should we worry. I think this is what the majority thinks.

In fact, the main problem of the animals is none other than that mindset. The human believe that only those who belong to our species deserve respect, while other animals are there for us to use them. Most people think that killing a human is wrong, but to kill someone other than human is not really nothing to worry about.

This mentality has been called speciesism. Speciesism is analogous to sexism or racism discrimination, which is the view that we can give an unfair treatment of individuals belonging to one or another species. (What is speciesism?)

From small point, they teach us to regard as inferior animals as things to us like slaves who to use. We are fed on their bodies and we get used to them in the caged zoo, circus performing the enslaved ridiculous and humiliating tricks. Thus, the animals have been for us always, food and entertainment and never individuals that respect.

At the same time we are bombarded with messages about the importance of respect for human, we learn to use a word like humanity which seems to pronounce accompanied by heavenly music. We are taught that discrimination is wrong and that being male or female, have a skin color or another, be more or less intelligent things are not important, that deal with human differences deserve the same respect.

This message is incomplete. True, sex, skin color, or the degree or type of intelligence is not relevant when we talk about respect for life, liberty or the suffering of the others, but it is also true that the species to it belongs either. The only important to respect these basic interests is the ability to feel (enjoy life, suffering, etc.). And this ability shared by all animals, human and nonhuman.
Conclusion

Therefore, if anyone comes up saying I hit women and blacks, but I respect you, respect me your me too why do we accept someone saying I am responsible for the suffering and death of animals, but I respect you are vegetarians, you respect me too.

They deserve respect individuals and not the views or actions, as these can be just or unjust. We can respect someone and say at the same time and clear that their ideas are wrong or morally reprehensible attitudes.

I do not mean that we do feel bad for people who are not vegetarian and that culpability their diet. (No one is guilty of the education he has received and certainly an accusing treatment only produce rejection of what we tell them and reaffirm their customs preventing understand what's wrong to discriminate against animals.

We have to consider that speciesism and consumption animal products is something that is instilled without asking before and that people deserve to be told why it is wrong what they do.). But what I do want to say is that we defend vegetarianism as a principle of justice and not as a simple fashion, for the life of animals is at stake and it is our responsibility to make a difference educating ourselves and educating the others.
